@jessiethomas86 That helps the entire body. This exercise along with bench press and squat are the top three overall body exercises.

Novice is a relative term, I’d say ghost dead lifting for at least one set to get the form down, then try 25 lbs on each end (assuming you’re using a 45 lb 7 ft standard olympic bar) and see how it feels.

also, what is the weight amount novices should begin at? 45 lbs on each end? higher?

should we switch hand directions after finishing set? i.e. turn the hand we had facing forward BACKWARD and turn the hand we had facing backward FOWARD?? or is that the standard grip direction? thanx

im still trying to perfect the deadlift and stiff-legged deadlift techniques, it seems to me that a a deadlift is only different than a stiff legged deadlift by that as your bringing down the barbell, you get to the ending position of a stiff legged deadlift (where u feel the load on the hams) but then u bend your knees to lower the barbell to the floor, is that a correct observation?

One thing what is wrong on this tutorial.
When you are finishing the move down, its not good to slow down the move when you are placing the barbell on the floor.
You much exert your back. Keep going down and let it drop. It will bang but this is how it should be done. Otherwise you can hurt your back (pain in lower back).

DL is awesome. Don’t forget the RDL either.
& definitely make sure you look up when doing this. Look at the floor while DL’ing heavy & you could easily pop a disk

could this cause hernia if your lifting too much?
January 15th, 2010 at 10:45 am
@hansentrust
probably squats

I always thought that pull-ups was best over-all exercise. Although many here are saying squats.

The video’s great. The only thing I noticed is that after you grab the bar, you are using it as leverage to be able to put more weight back on your hips. if you can’t get into the correct position before you grab the bar, then you are going to hurt your back. The best thing to do, even if you don’t have the flexibility is to get into the best position you can without holding onto the bar, and then grab the bar from that same position without changing leg and back angles.
