<p>One of the biggest mistakes we make when starting out on a fitness regimen is not having a defined plan. Sure maybe you hire a trainer for a few sessions or buy the latest exercise video. However that only gives you a small amount of information. What we need is a strategy that allows you to attain your fitness and nutrition goals and along the way teach you how to change your habits to maintain lifetime fitness. <p>Another common problem is quantity over quality. A person can exercise for hours and not see any results. It takes on average 100 calories to walk one mile (assumes level ground). My poor eating habits, terrible late night snacks and lack of exercise and I started packing on the weight.</p>
<p>In 5 years I gained 25 lbs and got to the point where people started commenting on how I was getting fat. I hated it, and I wanted to change. Enough was enough! I understood that if I didn&#8217;t do something now, I was just going to continue on my path of destruction and gain even more weight. I was at the end of my rope and I had to do something about it, so I started looking for an exercise program that I could use to get fit at home with.</p>
<p>I was watching T.V. and while flipping through the channels I landed on an infomercial that was talking about some crazy home fitness program called P90x. I watched the entire infomercial and was skeptical at first, but then I started getting more and more intrigued. I like the idea of muscle confusion, and I liked how there were 12 different workouts so I wouldn&#8217;t get bored as easily.</p>
<p>In the past, I would always get bored of a workout and then give up. This however, looked like it would be fun. I started getting excited that in just 90 days I could get fit at home, and after doing some research online about it, I ordered it on the Beachbody website. At this point I couldn&#8217;t wait for it to come in the mail so I could get started.</p>
<p>When it arrived I read everything and followed the guide. I watched the &#8220;How to Bring It&#8221; DVD and did the fit test to see if I was fit enough to do it. A group of people heard I was getting it (including my girlfriend) and they were all got excited and wanted to do it with me.</p>
<p>I pushed myself so hard at the beginning that for many days my arms were so sore and tight that I couldn&#8217;t extend them fully without pain. I decided that I better ease up a little because my body wasn&#8217;t fit enough to handle how hard I was pushing it. During the first few weeks I was regularly sore and struggling through the workouts.</p>
<p>All the workouts really pushed me and got my blood pumping. I couldn&#8217;t make it through the Ab Ripper X workout completely until day 40. Yoga X was extremely challenging and frustrating for me, but I kept at it, and gradually got better at it. I was so happy that week by week I was seeing results and getting stronger. Once the 90 days were up I was feeling great, and I was happy to have lost 11 lbs.</p>

<p>I can absolutely see why many buyers out there are not ready to take the dive and buy P90x. With all of the fitness products out there that promise everything but deliver next to nothing, it is understandable. The infomercial for this 90 day workout program might be seen as unbelievable, especially when people have been misled by infomercials for years. However, since I have completed this exercise program myself, I have a first hand experience of knowing it&#8217;s effectiveness. Does P90x work? It absolutely does!</p>
<p>How in the world does P90x work? The principles behind it are very effective at causing weight loss and all sorts of other wonderful changes to take place. By eating less, eating much better foods, and working out often, positive change will take place! Eating less, eating healthier, and working out regularly is the winning formula behind any effective fitness program.</p>
<p>The P90x package contains information and guides that show you how much to eat every day. It shows you how to find out how many calories you can eat in a day to get maximum results and how much of each kind of food you can eat. <p>When you are working out as hard as you are on the P90x program, your body needs to be fed healthier foods. If you want results faster then you need to give your body what it needs so it can recover faster after each workout. <p>The last way P90x is so effective is because it incorporates &#8220;muscle confusion&#8221;. In short, muscle confusion is the concept that by changing the workout routines regularly so that the muscles don&#8217;t have time to adapt, growth can happen faster. Each month the workout routine changes so that the muscles have new and challenging exercises and workout routines to preform. Without doing this, the body can adapt and get so good at doing the same, regularly done exercises that it is no longer as beneficial to continue doing them. When you change the exercise though, the muscles are challenged again, which will open the door to faster growth and better results.</p>

Many people don&#8217;t have a clue what repetition range they should stay in when weightlifting. The range depends on what your goal is. Do you want to get stronger, bigger, or leaner? Below are 3 repetition ranges explained.</p>
<p>For maximum strength gains, lifting a heavy enough weight that you can only do less than 5 reps is ideal for building strength. The primary adaptation made in this low range of repetitions is an increase in strength. While muscle may be built, improved strength is the main improvement that will be made. Athletes or anyone that wants to build strength and power without packing on muscle would want to primarily focus on staying in this range.</p>
<p>For those guys that want to seriously pack on the muscle, the best range of repetitions to lift in would be 6-12. When you stay in this range, the primary improvement made is a gain in muscles mass. Make sure you lift a heavy enough weight that you stay within the 6-12 range. If you get over 12, you will want to increase the weight so that you are primarily influencing muscle growth. You will build both size and strength, but the primary improvement is in size.</p>
<p>Women or men that don&#8217;t really care about building strength or mass, but would rather focus on building muscular endurance would be interested in doing 13-20+ reps for each set. Lifting high reps also helps increase mitochondria in the muscles, which translates to more energy being able to be stored in the muscles. Lifting a weight many times also helps to increase the number of capillaries in your muscles. These adaptations translate to more energy stored in your muscles, and increased blood flow through your muscles.</p>
<p>In summary, the amount of reps you do depends entirely on what your goals are. If you want to build as little muscle as possible, do 13-20+, if you want to build huge muscles, do 6-12, and if you want to primarily improve your strength, do 1-5 reps.</p>
